The Wiinja Modchip

Overview

The Wiinja is a first-generation Wii modchip. It is made by the Ninja Team, who had previously worked on the Ninja DS flashcart for the Nintendo DS. Based on the 12F629 series of PIC microcontrollers, it only supported up to the DMS and D2A drives; later, with the Wiinja v2, it was backwards compatible with the D2B drives. The last version of the Wiinja (known as the Wiinja Deluxe) can be upgraded with frequent firmware updates via DVD media.

Functionality

The first-generation modchips were not a console firmware hack; rather, it puts the drive into a debug setting to allow the reading of copied discs.

You can check the Wii chipset version compatibility with the serial number of the console.
