Stargate 3DS is a flashcart designed for the Nintendo 3DS by Stargate-3DS that allows you to play DS games in DS-Mode and 3DS games in 3DS-Mode, all in one cartridge. It is also the first hybrid flashcart with the addition of ntrboothax, which makes installing custom firmware relatively easy. The Stargate 3DS supports firmwares up to 11.17.0-50 and therefore works with every 3DS/2DS model (including the 'New' models). Homebrew can be booted by either using the ninjhax exploit by Smealum or through custom firmware. 3DS games must be the same region as your console as it is region-locked, but this can be easily bypassed using regionFOUR.

Features List

  • Support for all 3DS firmware versions up to V11.17.0-50.
  • Plays both 3DS and DS ROMs.
  • Support for ntrboothax/magnethax.
  • Support all New3DS/3DSLL, 3DS/XL, 2DS consoles(US,EU,JP).
  • Region-locked (can be bypassed using CFW).
  • Compatible with any microSD SDHC/XC card, maximum capacity up to 128GB.
  • FAT32 and exFAT filesystem support (3DS-Mode only).
  • Support eShop and online features.
  • Stargate 3DS has two buttons, both to cycle forwards and backwards between ROMs.
  • Use as a DS-Mode flashcart by pushing both the two buttons.
  • Firmware upgradeable through the microUSB port.
  • High-performance ultra low-power SoC.
  • Does not use emuNAND.

Clones

  • This cart is a clone: No.
  • This cart has clone(s): No.

Region Free

  • Region free using smealum's regionthree on firmware <9.4.0 (not with N3DS/XL).
  • Region free using smealum's regionFOUR on firmware 9.0.0-9.8.0 (works on all 3DS models).

Best Practice: Use a fresh SD card. Add 'Cubic Ninja' as the first game on the card, then add the other region game afterwards. Use the regionFOUR exploit, then use the two buttons to cycle through the games.

Using Stargate 3DS

First-Time Setup

To be able to use your Stargate 3DS, you must preload your own encrypted 3DS dumps (as well as the DS-Mode kernel) onto the microSD card before the Stargate can recognize the SD card's presence.

Requirements:

  • Any SDHC/SDXC card up to 128GB.
  • USB card reader.
  • Stargate 3DS flashcart.

  1. Download the Stargate 3DS (DS-Mode) kernel here.
  2. Insert the microSD card into your PC's card reader, the SD card will appear as a removable disk.
  3. Download the SD Card Formatter tool, run the setup program, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Run the SD Card Formatter tool by double-clicking on the shortcut, that is, located on your desktop.
  5. Select the removable disk letter from the drive list (usually it should be 'E:' by default). Make sure that it's the same letter as your SD card and not any other device!
  6. Click the "Format" button, then click "OK" when you are asked to format the card.
  7. Extract the DS-Mode kernel files onto the root of your SD card (the top level, this should not be in any other folder!).
  8. Copy all of your (.3ds) 3DS ROMs onto the root of your SD card.
  9. Create a new folder called "NDS", then copy all of your (.nds) DS-Mode ROMs into the "NDS" folder.
  10. Right-click on the disk (your SD card), and select 'Eject' from the drop-down list, then safely remove the SD card from its adapter.
  11. Insert the microSD card into your Stargate 3DS's microSD slot, then insert the Stargate into the game-slot of your 3DS.

Switching Games

To switch between the games on the microSD card, use the two white buttons to cycle forwards/backwards. When you start a new game, the save file is created on the SPI flash and transferred back to the microSD when you exit the game. When you restart, it will read the save file and resume to where you left off.

DS-Mode

Push the two white buttons on the Stargate; the game "Alex Rider Stormbreaker" will appear on the HOME Menu. Launch the game, and you will be redirected to the Wood kernel.

If you are using Luma3DS custom firmware, the Stargate 3DS's DS-Mode feature will not work. This is due to the cart whitelist patches conflicting with the flashcart, thus you must use the launcher CIA file to boot into the kernel.

Backup/Restore Save Data

To backup save data:

  • Insert the microSD card into your PC's card reader, the SD card will appear as a removable disk.
  • Open the removable disk with your microSD card mounted, drag-and-drop all files with the (.sav) extension to a safe place on your PC.
  • Right-click on the disk (your SD card), and select 'Eject' from the drop-down list, then safely remove the SD card from its adapter.

To restore save data:

  • Insert the microSD card into your PC's card reader, the SD card will appear as a removable disk.
  • Open the removable disk with your microSD card mounted, drag-and-drop all files with the (.sav) extension to the top-level of your SD card (it should not be in any other folder).
  • Right-click on the disk (your SD card), and select 'Eject' from the drop-down list, then safely remove the SD card from its adapter.

Installing CFW (ntrboot)

Follow the ntrboot guide on 3ds.hacks.guide. In order to use the Stargate 3DS for ntrboot, the microSD card must be removed.

Updating Firmware

As of now, there is no officially made updates from the Stargate team, even after they had disbanded.
