Remember you must use several ROM files of the games you want to inject and several Wii Virtual Console Channels (WADs) before concluding that the game has problems. Testing your games with only one ROM file of the game and / or with only one WAD can cause false failed or broken injections.

The ROM video standard must match that of the Virtual Console channel (e.g. NTSC ROMs should be injected into NTSC/PAL60 channels). Using a wrong region match may lead to the game being region-locked, unable to start or running at a different speed/resolution. Some European channels (mainly American and Japanese imports) are optimized to run at PAL60, rather than PAL50 which is the case with other channels. The list of PAL60 games is as follows:
 +
* '''NES/Famicom''': Ninja Gaiden
 +
* '''SNES/Super Famicom''': Mario's Super Picross (E), Gradius III (E), Natsume Championship Wrestling (E)
 +
* '''Nintendo 64''': Sin and Punishment (E), Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber (E)
 +
* '''TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine''': All channels

* Loads a black screen. Active Enterprises put a special pirate code in the game which the Wii emulator does not support. Why do you think AVGN broke 3 of his nes consoles when playing this in his action 52 video? WHY WOULD YOU EVEN WANT TO PLAY THIS?! No works on Wii U or Wii Family Edition.

not to be confused with Earthworm Jim 3D* surprised this even works considering it’s a bootleg, i’m guessing it it has to do with Kirby adventure being 6 MB and yes, the game actually works well, don’t believe me? INJECT IT YOURSELF AND SEE!

For inject a N64 ROM into the 'Bomberman Hero (U)' WAD, you MUST edit the ROM you want to inject in order for prevent the HOME button from crashing the game, before compressing it. Just open the ROM file with a hex editor (I recommend HxD), then replace the ID of the game (ex. NPOE) with "NBDE" (without quotes). Then save the changes to the ROM, and now you can compress the ROM with 'romc' and inject it, and that's it, no more HOME button crashing. (thanks to SuperrSonic for his help)

The Wii N64 Channels 'Sin and Punishment (E)' and 'Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber (E)' are set up to run in PAL60, rather than PAL50. This makes them perfect for injecting custom ROMs in, as PAL60 uses the same number of lines and refresh rate as NTSC.
+
The Nintendo 64 Virtual Console is notorious for its poor compatibility with injected ROMs (e.g. Rareware games do not run at all), as most of them just simply crash mostly on the classic controller screen or spinning N64 loading screen and others run with minor or major glitches. Some N64 VC channels use separate emulators which may differ in compatibility for a specific ROM. Testing with different versions of a particular game and different N64 VC channels is therefore recommended for this section.

+
'''IMPORTANT NOTE:''' Nintendo 64 VC emulation is too poor on the Wii, '''so you have an 85% chance of your injection fails because it crashes on the 'You will need the Classic Controller' screen,''' and only you have a '''15% chance''' of your injection works '''(often with issues)'''.

All of the Wii TG-16 (CD) / PCE (CD) Channels released in PAL region are set up to run in PAL60, rather than PAL50. This makes them perfect for injecting custom ROMs in, as PAL60 uses the same number of lines and refresh rate as NTSC.

Latest revision as of 18:28, 29 October 2024

  • NES/Famicom: Ninja Gaiden
  • SNES/Super Famicom: Mario's Super Picross (E), Gradius III (E), Natsume Championship Wrestling (E)
  • Nintendo 64: Sin and Punishment (E), Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber (E)
  • TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine: All channels
Compatibility Legend Class (?)
Games that work 100% or have few/very minor issues, like stuttering audio, or other things that don't affect gameplay. ct-works
Games that work almost 100% and are playable but have some issues like missing textures or crashes after doing certain in-game action not supposed to be done (a intentional bug for example). ct-minor
Games that mostly work but with more serious but playable bugs, or random lockups (random doesn't mean lock up every time at the same spot in the game). ct-issues
Games that do not load and have major problems and/or are unplayable, or have consistent lock ups. ct-broken
Unknown status. Game has not been tested, or the test results were unclear. ct-noresult

Nintendo Entertainment System / Famicom (Family Computer)

The ROM file extension of the game you want to inject MUST be in *.nes format. File type *.fam is the same as *.nes files are can be used as well.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Famicom Disk System (*.fds) games are NOT supported.

The ROM must NOT have a header. You can tell by checking the size of the file and seeing if the last digit has an odd number. If it does, then it has a header. You can use this tool to remove the header from the ROM: http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/525/

The ROM file extension of the game you want to inject MUST be in *.smc or in *.sfc format. File types *.snes and *.fig (common in Europe (PAL) games and releases) are the same as *.smc / *.sfc files so they can be used as well.

Nintendo 64

Before injecting, the N64 game MUST be 'byteswapped'. That is most common in *.z64 N64 ROM files. If you have a N64 ROM file that is in *.z64, that means the ROM is byteswapped. However, if extension is *.n64 or *.v64, use one of the swappers below.

The ROM file extension of the game you want to inject MUST be in *.z64. However, if the ROM file extension is *.n64 or *.v64, then you must byte-swap the ROM file and convert the ROM file into *.z64 with this online tool: https://hack64.net/tools/swapper.php or with uCON64 (link: https://ucon64.sourceforge.io/) in CMD with the command "ucon64.exe --n64 --swap ROMNAME.z64".

NEC TurboGrafx-16 / NEC PC Engine

It does not matter what region the 'Wii Virtual Console Channel (.wad)' is. The 'TurboGrafx-16 / PC Engine' (HuCard or CD-ROM²) Wii Channels are set up to work on a Japan, American or Europe / Australian Wii.

If you want to inject PC Engine SuperGrafx HuCard games, I recommend Dungeon Explorer (U) or Daimakaimura (J) for inject them. They MUST be injected manually due to the size of the SuperGrafx ROM files (average size 1 MB per SuperGrafx ROM, beating a normal PCE ROM of 384 kB). You can inject manually your ROM by unpacking the 5.app file, renaming the ROM file you want to inject as the WAD-ROM file, and then replacing the old one, and repacking the 5.app file.

If you want to inject CD-ROM² games, remember only are supported TG-16 CD / PCE CD games that are compatible with CD-ROM² System or Super CD-ROM² System. IMPORTANT NOTE: Arcade CD-ROM² System games are NOT supported in Wii Virtual Console, due to the requirement of an special upgrade card called "Arcade Card DUO" (for the Super CD-ROM² System unit) or "Arcade Card PRO" (for the original CD-ROM² System unit). Howewer, you can still inject Arcade CD-ROM² games that are compatible with Super CD-ROM² System, which the Wii emulator supports. If unsure, then check the following list of Arcade CD-ROM² games that works in Super CD-ROM² System: https://necretro.org/CD-ROM%C2%B2_systems#List_of_games_3

Special syscard3P.pce file of the PCE CD-ROM² System v1.0 for inject Juuouki here: https://www.mediafire.com/?sjemuqb07ejdfpq/

Special RLmessages.bin file for inject TG-16 CD / PCE CD games which supports 5 players here: https://www.mediafire.com/?my252ujpsd8ualv/

Remember some TurboGrafx-16 / PC Engine HuCard games don't work in Bomberman '93 emulator, so try to inject your TG-16 / PCE ROMs in Moto Roader, Super Star Soldier or Dungeon Explorer emulator.

If you try to inject them using Auto InjectuWAD, possibly you receive the message 'Rom file too large to inject to the selected entry, exiting!!'. If this occurs, you should inject manually your ROM by unpacking the 5.app file, renaming the ROM file you want to inject as the WAD-ROM file, and then replacing the old one, and repacking the 5.app file.

Remember you must use several ROM files of the games you want to inject and several TG-16 / PCE WADs before concluding that the game has problems. Testing your games with only one ROM file of the game can cause false failed or broken injections.

SNK Neo Geo AES (SNK NeoGeo AES)

It does not matter what region the 'Wii Virtual Console Channel (.wad)' is. The 'SNK NeoGeo AES' & 'SNK NeoGeo MVS' Wii Channels are set up to work on a Japan, American or Europe / Australian Wii, due to the universal BIOS. If you use the WAD in an American Wii, the emulator switches to USA version. Howewer, if you use the WAD in an European / Australian Wii, the emulator switches to Europe version. Example: In USA, the game 'Puzzle Bobble' switches to 'Bust-A-Move'. Howewer, if Europe, the game switches to 'Puzzle Bobble'.

The SNK NeoGeo ROM MUST be compressed in *.zip format before using. For inject the NeoGeo games as Wii VC games, you MUST uncompress the game content compressed in the *.zip file into the ROM folder of Devilken's and Corsario's VC Injector.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Only are supported NeoGeo AES (Advanced Entertainment System) games and some NeoGeo MVS (Multi-Video System) games. NeoGeo CD (CD-ROM) games are NOT supported.

Microsoft MSX (MSX1) / MSX2

For play MSX (MSX1) / MSX2 Virtual Console games on NTSC-U / PAL Wiis, (because MSX Wii VC games were only released in Japan, so they're only NTSC-J region), you MUST make the WAD Region FREE using FreeTheWads, ShowMiiWads, or any other program for patch WAD's region.

Before injecting your game, you MUST check for what MSX system (MSX1 or MSX2) is readable. Road Fighter (J) only runs MSX (MSX1) games. Space Manbow (J) and Metal Gear (J) are made for play both MSX (MSX1) and MSX2 games.

In MSX2 Wii VC WAD 'Space Manbow (J)', the WAD uses a special unique sound driver chip called 'SCC'. That means, only MSX1 / MSX2 SCC games should be injected into SCC host WADs, otherwise the sound effects (SFX) will go away (won't use that sounds).

The ROM file extension of the game you want to inject MUST be in *.rom format. File types *.mx1 (for MSX1 games) and *.mx2 (for MSX2 games) are the same as *.rom files are can be used as well. However, if the ROM file extension is *.dsk, then use this tool to convert the ROM file into *.rom: https://www.msx.org/news/software/en/dsk2rom-080
