Please restore game IDs. The first letter is completely USELESS. If you try to order games by first letter, you obtain a fu**ed-up table. The right way to order games by alphabetical order is to order them by rom title.

Instead, rom ID is really useful. Please read always rules before editing a page. If someone's interested in this strange 1st letter table, you can find a backup version here. Please talk on the discussion page before making these big editings.

What exactly is the game number used for? Cant that column be removed?
No, the game number is the release number and should be the same as the one in the gbatemp database

Information

Using the same method as the current "partially region free" modchips, there are several computer applications which can replicate the effect on Wii ISO's prior to burning. They all use a very similar method of patching and compatibility should be identical between the applications and the modchips - consequentially this list can be used for both modchips and software patching methods (until these methods change).

There may be errors in the list simply due to misreported information or as a result of media problems. You are free to add to the list and correct any mistakes you might see.

For a list of Gamecube games that are compatible with modded Wiis, check here the Gamecube Compatibility List.

Questions

  • Question #1: Why does some games can be played on other regions and others cannot?

Answer: Because the regions use different video outputs, and to avoid video problems, the consoles blocked games from other regions.

  • Question #2: I read on some Chinese forum that WiiFit will cure semi-bricked Wiis (jpn). Can anyone confirm this?

Answer: Yes, it works. I did it to my wii last week and cured the semibrick it had.

  • Question #3: What about 480p?

Answer: Should act the same as 60hz in PAL, and same in NTSC.

  • Question #4: Can a column be added to indicate if the game includes an update and what it does and if it's safe to apply (For drivers or compatibility)

Answer: Please do!

Glossary

Update with concepts of technical terms.

  • ISO: Disc (CD or DVD) image
  • Bricking: When a Wii stops working after it tries to update its firmware with a different region firmware, or if it can't update, hence becoming as useful and entertaining as a brick.
  • Semi-Bricking: When a Wii experiences reduced functionality after it tries to update its firmware with the firmware of a different region. Typically the settings menu is no longer accessible, but games are still playable, hence, "semi-bricked".
